The Bellingen Global Carnival OB Successful

Hugh Masekela on the main stage beneath a Full Moon

The 30 hours of LIVE broadcasts from this year's Global Carnival were great listening!! The dedicated team of Tark, Sean, Annabella, Katie, Collin & Roz (visiting from BAY FM) kept the broadcasts interesting. Global Artists dropped in for impromptu live interviews. The true legend of African music, Hugh Masekela, enjoyed the grass roots feel of OB-1 while talking freely about his life pursuing freedom for all people through music.

A microphone placed outside OB-1 picked up the crowd noise and provided a surprise to passers by as their comments were solicited from the clever radio-speaker. Everyone we encountered was having a fab time, experiencing the rich global atmosphere of the market bazaar and tasting some foreign flavours from the food court. And, of course, Dancing was high on many people's list of priorities. The fabulous line-up of artists did not disappoint.

Home AgainWe are home again and broadcasting from our studios. After only 3 weeks the extensive repairs to the TripleB studios & office have been just about completed.

A huge thank you to our insurers, the builders, painters, carpet layers, plumbers, mudbrick patchers and electricians who all worked diligently to complete the job as efficiently as possible. Very special thanks to Dorin for supervising all the on site work and to Cherie for liaising with the insurance people - as volunteers. The ultimate spirit of volunteering for the community.

It was fun to broadcast from our trusty Little Blue OB Van; great to be in the centre of town; and fabulous to be back in the comfort of the familiar studios.

93.3 Where are You??

**BREAKING NEWS**

The new, bigger, better, stronger transmitter is ordered and on its way. It's in Gosford and will be installed asap !!! (21/10/09)

The hard rains of change have hit our 93.3 transmitter. In late May the Dorrigo Plateau received in excess of 900mm of hard rain in 4 days. The sheer volume of the rain forced water into the transmitter hut AND into our main transmitter causing extensive damage.

While we are waiting for the insurance claim to be processed, 93.3 is broadcasting on very low power. Listeners in Dorrigo township and immediate surrounds can hear us; but to those further afield, who are accustomed to the distinctive Community Mudbrick sound of the BBB’s, we apologise for any inconvenience. But, watch this space. When the damaged transmitter is replaced you will hear us loud & clear once again.

Our Bellingen frequency 107.3 is operating as normal.

1 In 100 Year Flood ?

THE BIG FLOOD!!!!!

We had been worriedly watching the waters lap at the back of our mudbrick home in recent floods, but the deluge of March 31st 2009 was something we could hardly prepare for. Like so many homes and businesses in the Bellingen / Urunga / Sawtell / Coffs Harbour area, we were left in shock and awe at the sheer intensity of the rains and the suddenness of the torrent of storm water which gushed straight through 2BBB. It appears that none of the drainage systems around here are designed to cope with the intensity of the downpours that are coming our way due to climate change?

We were still valiantly broadcasting as the the water cascaded in, and once the rains had subsided and the electrician had given the all-clear, we were back up on air in a jiffy. Thanks go to all of the volunteers who pitched in and rescued our valuable equipment and who then took part in the massive clean-up. The Post-Flood smell had to be smelt to be believed! If there is any way you can help us recover, please do call in - any help at all will be very gratefully received!

Chair Persons Report

Chairperson’s Report to
The Annual General Meeting
Bellinger Community Communications Co-operative
18 September 2008

This past year, due to the inundation of the building during the 31st March floods, meetings have had to be more sporadic and in the past six months heavily devoted to the flood damage refurbishment under the guidance of Dorin Hart who volunteered to oversee the building's insurance claim as a Site Coordinator. At the outset the Board wishes to thank Dorin for a mighty achievement and her commitment, often starting at 6 a.m. and finishing late in the evening while builders were working on the damaged areas. She was meticulous in itemising work to be done and recruiting volunteers to help in many areas including the painting that was not included in the assessment. The station was closed for three weeks to give builders the opportunity to work unimpeded, but we were never off air because we were broadcasting every day from the Outside Broadcasting Van located in the main street at Carl Foster's garage. Thanks to the presenters who rostered their time there under difficult conditions and to Carl for having us on his premises.
